One of the primary ways God is drawing Muslims to Himself is through simple Bible studies that highlight passages of scripture from Creation through the Resurrection. The Waha app (https://waha.app/) contains many story sets that have been translated into dozens of languages. Throughout the 30 days we will pray through these story sets that reveal Jesus, the Word made flesh.
As you read these familiar passages, prayerfully imagine what it would be like to read them for the first time – to see the wisdom, power, beauty, and authority of God and to be drawn to trust in Christ and yield your allegiance to Him.
Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
God is writing one unified story. We began tracing this story on Day 1 of this prayer campaign with God speaking creation into being. It continued with the promise about the Seed of the woman on Day 3, Isaac’s substitutionary sacrifice on Day 8, and the doorways painted with the lamb’s blood on Day 10. All of this builds up to today’s passage, the fulfillment of the new covenant that Jesus established.
All of humanity is capable of betrayal. When Jesus said that one of his followers would betray him, they all became sorrowful and asked one another, “Is it I?” Pray for people in this land to have honest self-awareness about their capacity to do evil. Pray that this revelation would drive them to the only one who can forgive them of the evil they have done and give them a new heart — holy, pure, selfless, and loving.
Radhia grew up in a conservative Muslim family. She led a normal life, marrying, having children, and being a good neighbor. When she inexplicably lost more than 20 pounds, she went to a doctor to seek answers. She discovered she had a very rare intestinal disorder and that she would need an expensive surgery. She reached out to her family to help her, but found that no one was willing to support her. Confused and feeling abandoned, she reached out to her neighbor who was a Christian. Despite this neighbor having even more difficult financial circumstances than Radhia, by God’s grace this Christian was able to help her and walk with her through her overwhelmingly difficult circumstances.
Which of us has not experienced betrayal? Muslims are not an exception. Sadly, they do not know a Lord who knowingly accepted betrayal and continued to love his betrayer until the last moment.
Pray that when Muslims in this place experience human betrayal, they would have an opportunity through Christ and/or His followers to experience undeserved acceptance, love, and forgiveness.
Miraculously, while Radhia awaited surgery she put her trust in Jesus and he healed her. The surgery was canceled and Radhia’s family is now trying to understand what happened. Pray for many hearts to be drawn to Christ through this testimony.
On the night Jesus was betrayed, he said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Pray that every time brothers and sisters take communion – eating the bread and drinking the cup – they would proclaim the Lord’s death. Pray this bold proclamation would lead to multitudes of people in this land becoming followers of Christ who participate in communion. Pray that the practice of taking the Lord’s Supper would be an act of spiritual defiance against the spiritual forces that try to say, “Jesus didn’t really die.” May it be taken with eager expectation for the day we will drink it again with Jesus in His Father’s Kingdom.
