One of the primary ways God is drawing Muslims to Himself is through simple Bible studies that highlight passages of scripture from Creation through the Resurrection. The Waha app (https://waha.app/) contains many story sets that have been translated into dozens of languages. Throughout the 30 days we will pray through these story sets that reveal Jesus, the Word made flesh.
As you read these familiar passages, prayerfully imagine what it would be like to read them for the first time – to see the wisdom, power, beauty, and authority of God and to be drawn to trust in Christ and yield your allegiance to Him.
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks. For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive. Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them.”Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.
The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died.He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.
In the midst of complete brokenness, God is committed to finding a way to restore relationship with His people.
When man is left to his own devices, he is completely corrupt and will only do evil. There is no hope that we can please God in our own strength. Yet, in this passage, in spite of his imperfections, we see that Noah found favor in God’s eyes.
“You can’t trust anyone. Everyone is out to take advantage of you. You need to be careful who you trust. I don’t have any other person that I’ve ever shared these deep hopes and dreams with,” said Miriam. Miriam’s words reflect a common struggle among Muslims.
In one sense, Muslims have a deep understanding of the fallen nature of mankind, evident in their lack of trust in people. On the other hand, they put all their hope in earning God’s favor through their own works. The story of Noah makes it evident that there is none who are righteous and that we need a Savior who can protect us from the coming flood of consequences of our sin.
Isaiah 54:9-10 says, “‘This is like the days of Noah to me. As I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you and will not rebuke you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,’ says the Lord who has compassion on you.”
Many who come to Christ carry deep wounds from past trauma. Pray that “I” will experience complete healing, restoration, and freedom from the painful memories of her past. Pray also for “I”’s Bible group—that as they discover the healing power and compassion of Jesus, together, they will choose to follow Him wholeheartedly.
Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear, constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.”
Pray for Muslims in Tunisia to be people like Noah who would have a reverent fear of God and who would take action toward the salvation of their household. Ask that they would be people who would gather their children, their siblings, aunts and uncles, and extended families to read God’s Holy Word and consequently be transformed by it.
Pray for bold witnesses to emerge among this people who would proclaim the good news that they are heirs of righteousness that comes by faith.
Just as Noah is called a “herald of righteousness” in 2 Peter 2:5, may men and women be raised up as heralds of righteousness in every region for God’s glory.
